MIDDAY MADNESS

Midday Madness (MDM) is an interactive national tour of events, hitting 10 cities across the UK in the lead up to the main Midnight Madness events. The events provide a full day of basketball entertainment for the whole family, featuring:

Youth coaching clinics for 8-16 year olds
Female only open play opportunities & competitions
Show & Prove courts for U21’s & O21’s
Elite Court action
Slam Dunk Search
Athletic Testing
Gaming Zones
Live DJ’s
Prizes & Giveaways

MDM also represents the first level opportunity for players to win themselves a place at the all-important Midnight Madness Qualifier by earning one of the 10 ‘Golden Tickets’ on offer at each of the MDM events.

Players are invited to step up and ‘show & prove’ to the talent scouts on hand that they have what it takes to ‘ball above all’ in full court 5 on 5 ‘pick up’ basketball action. Impress the scouts by consistently displaying your strengths in one of the areas they are looking for and earn a place on the Elite Court, where you get to go head to head with the best players in attendance on the day.

Once on the Elite Court, players are put into balanced teams and scored individually by the Ball Without Bias (BWB) computerised stats system, which evaluates players on their strengths and weaknesses while promoting and rewarding exciting play. BWB is not just about how many times you put the ball though the hoop! To score well on BWB you have to play fundamentally sound, well-rounded team basketball as it measures your whole game (shooting, rebounding, passing, defense etc) – with the highest rewards for teams that consistently win. On the Elite Court players are competing for a place on the leaderboard, which details who the top scoring players are on the BWB system. The leaderboard is updated continuously throughout Elite Court play, and the name of the game for all players is to make sure you are amongst the top 10 by the end of play. The top 10 players at the end of the day are rewarded with a ‘Golden Ticket’ that secures them a place in the all-important Midnight Madness Qualifier, taking them one step closer to making Finals Night at Wembley Arena in August.

MDM events are also heavily involved with local community basketball development, working with clubs and networks in ensuring that players drawn into MDM can continue to play and be involved with the game throughout the year. Through our Reach & Teach programs we strive to work with existing local providers in strengthening and building better access and grassroots playing opportunities for the whole community.
